PARTNER ECOSYSTEMS

How the NMI and USAePay partner networks are structured

Neither NMI nor USAePay sells primarily to end merchants. Both run on partner channels — ISOs, ISVs, resellers, and white-label operators — and understanding that structure explains almost everything about pricing, support, and onboarding speed on both platforms.

Partner agreements set the terms most merchants never see directly.

The partner types, in plain terms

Partner typeWhat they doWho carries merchant risk
ISO (Independent Sales Organization)Registered with the card networks; sells and supports merchant accountsThe ISO / sponsoring acquirer
ResellerTypically operates under a registered ISO; earns revenue share without full network registrationThe ISO above it
ISV (Independent Software Vendor)Embeds the gateway into its own software productDepends on structure; often the underlying acquirer or a PayFac layer
White-label partnerRebrands the gateway entirely as its own platformDepends on the underlying agreement
PayFac / semi-PayFacOnboards sub-merchants under one master merchant account, often instantlyThe PayFac itself

Neither NMI nor USAePay is itself a payment facilitator — both are gateways that can support PayFac-style sub-merchant onboarding for partners who build that layer on top.
